Student Privacy
OnCourse is designed to help offices that support students communicate with each other about a student. That means that a lot of the information in the system may be viewed by staff members in those offices. So it shouldn't be surprising if your advisor asks you about something you talked to another staff member about.
Who can see my information?
Advising appointment summaries:
- Advisors and their supervisors
- ROTC, ODI, or SASSO advisors (if you have one)
Tutoring appointment summaries:
- Tutors and their supervisors
Your calendar (courses, appointments):
- All roles except student front desk workers, tutors, and professors
Your grades:
- Advisors and their supervisors
Your notes:
- Advisors, their supervisors, and their front desk (excluding student-workers)
- ROTC, SASSO, and ODI advisors (if you have one)
- Tutoring supervisors
- Success coaches
- Some staff members of Buckeye Link, Financial Aid, the Registrar, and other offices that help students (excluding student-workers)
Progress reports:
- Advisors and their supervisors
- ROTC, SASSO, and ODI advisors (if you have one)
- Tutoring supervisors
- Athletic coaches and sport administrators
- Success coaches
Assignments:
- SASSO advisors (if you have one)
- Tutoring supervisors
- Success coaches
Your messages and conversations:
- The person you are messaging/conversing with
Additional privacy information
Your records in OnCourse are protected by FERPA. However, anyone who has your Ohio State name.# and password log-in information can see everything that you see in OnCourse. Always protect your passwords and be sure to log out of your account when finished.
OnCourse includes information from Buckeye Link. Staff members who are able to see your information in other university systems (like Buckeye Link) can still see that information in OnCourse. This includes staff members who run reports and analyze data for the university.
The staff members who manage and support OnCourse for the university also have access to see all the information within the system. Please contact oncourse@osu.edu with questions or concerns.
